RIP Solomon Burke

the criminally unheralded Solomon Burke died yesterday.

Burke first came to my attention (i remember thinking "he looks kind of like an O.G. Cee Lo Green") when i read several rapturous reviews of his comeback/revival album Don't Give Up On Me upon its release in 2002. every time i headed out to a record store i meant to pick it up, but amidst the tumult of moving around North Carolina and trying to figure out what exactly i was going to do with my life, that record, along with a few other things and people, slithered right through the cracks. listening to the tracks bookending his memorials and obituaries this afternoon, i thought about what an unfortunate miss that was.
and jesus, that album title. who hasn't been there?

  1. Can we make this a v-log so I can see Melvyn's handsome mug and hear his golden voice?

  2. let's not forget when Sandy Cohen sang 'Don't Give Up On Me' to Kirsten on the O.C.
